First Cumberland Presbyterian Church
First Cumberland Presbyterian (423) 698-2556
1505 N. Moore Rd. Chattanooga, TN
God has established and blessed marriage for the welfare and happiness of mankind. Our Savior declared that in marriage a man and woman shall bind themselves together as one in love and purpose. By His apostles, He has instructed those who enter into this relationship to cherish a mutual esteem and love, to bear with each other’s infirmities, to provide for each other in
material things, and to pray for and encourage each other in the things which pertain to God.
The wedding covenant is made in the name of God the
Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, the marriage ceremony conducted in First Cumberland Presbyterian Church will reflect those principles and will conform in content and in personal conduct to the normal standards of a Sunday morning worship service. Every part of the ceremony, including the music, should be planned and conducted with the worshipful nature of the event in mind.
It is the policy of the church to rent the facilities to nonmembers
who accept the policies and meet the guidelines set by the church.
The Wedding Hostess will serve as coordinator between the church
and the wedding party. The Hostess will be present for the rehearsal, as well as, before, during and after the wedding. Detailed
guidelines for florists, photographers, and caterers will be explained
and enforced by the Wedding Hostess Premarital Counseling is required of all couples who will be married at First Cumberland, and will be provided by the Senior Minister or by the minister in charge of the ceremony. A couple may request that a minister not on the staff of First Cumberland be permitted to conduct the wedding ceremony. The minister must provide a copy of his/her “Certificate of Ordination.” The Senior Minister considers such requests on an individual basis, and will make decisions according to his best judgment. The church organist will play for all weddings unless a rare exception is granted. Only music that has been approved by the church organist or a minister of First Cumberland may be used.
No pre-recorded music of any kind is allowed.
A nonrefundable deposit of half of the facilities use fee must be
paid before the wedding is placed on the church calendar. The balance for use of church facilities and fees for staff must be paid
in full 30 days prior to the wedding rehearsal. Scheduling of church events and member weddings takes priority over weddings for nonmembers; therefore, nonmembers may not reserve a scheduled date earlier than nine months in advance. Saturday evening weddings may not be scheduled after 6:00 pm. If the reception is being held at the church, the wedding may not
be scheduled after 4:00 pm.
The beautiful stone tile aisle is known to be the longest (over 100 feet) in Chattanooga for a grand entrance. A large bridal room and room for groom are also available. Plenty of free parking and handicapped accessible. Our balcony in the back runs along the entire width of the Sanctuary.
